Jordan is one of the world’s most water-scarce countries, with just 61 m³ of water available per person annually, compared to a global average of 5,400 m³. With 92% of its territory classified as arid or semi-arid, efficient water management is essential. FAO’s satellite-based WaPOR portal supports better monitoring and allocation of water resources, helping strengthen food security, rural livelihoods and climate resilience. WaPOR also contributes to GEOGLAM, a flagship initiative of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) supporting agricultural monitoring and food security worldwide.
