SeBS Sector Workshops

The event focused on how Copernicus Sentinel data was benefiting public agencies and improving the understanding of its societal value through the benchmarking of use cases in areas of public interest. It highlighted how Sentinel data supported sectors such as road infrastructure, agriculture, water management, and environmental protection, delivering both measurable and non-monetary benefits.

Building on findings from the Sentinel Benefits Study (SeBS), which had analysed around 20 cases across multiple value dimensions, the discussions emphasized the importance of “soft” benefits—particularly for public administrations—and explored how these could be better captured and compared. The event also introduced a benchmarking exercise aimed at identifying common patterns and differences across similar use cases, with a focus on topics such as road infrastructure, forest management, and water quality monitoring.

Through a series of workshops, participants exchanged insights, contributed additional cases, and helped develop a broader understanding of how Sentinel data could be applied across different contexts. The outcomes supported further analysis of cross-cutting benefits and encouraged wider adoption of Copernicus-based solutions among public authorities.
